Samir Chandra and Umme Kulsum have been elected as president and general secretary of Bangladesh Krishak League, Krishak League, the associate body of the ruling AL, respectively. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday declared the leadership of the new committee for the next three years at the council session at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital, reports Sarabangla.net.
The election of the new central committee was held at the council session at IEB auditorium.
Earlier, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 10th national council of the Krishak League at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan around 11:00am amid fanfare and festivity.
AL Presidium Member and Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were present at the council session, among others.
On April 19 in 1972, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded Bangladesh Krishak League with the slogan of “Save the farmers, save the country”.
Abdur Rob Serniabat was the founding president of Krishak League who was one of the martyrs of August 15, 1975 carnage.
The ninth council of the organisation was held on July 19 in 2012.
A 111-member committee was formed through the council making Motahar Hossain Molla president and Shamsul Haque Reza general secretary.
