A Union Parishad (UP) member has been accused of beating a college student named Russel Hossain for protesting against irregularities in a development project at Ramgati upazila of Lakhhipur. The incident was took place yesterday morning in front of Mohammadia Madrasa of Asherkot village under the upazila, reports Desh Rupantor.
Nourgaon UP member Nurul Amin attacked the college student after protesting against irregularities in the development of the Local Government Support Project (LGSP), implemented by the local government department in the upazila.
The injured Russel is a student of the eleventh grade of Dalta College. He was rescued and admitted to Ramganj Government Hospital. When asked about the matter, UP member Nurul Amin said that Russel is a student of a college. What does the boy understand about road construction? I had beaten him to interrupt my work.
Locals said they were supposed to work on a 600-fit road at a cost of Tk 2 lakh on the LGSP project in front of the Haji home of Ashakota village of Noagaon union of the upazila. But Russel protested when UP member went to build the road with old bricks. Then, the member beat him up seriously. Besides, he looted the mobile phones, gold chains and money from him.
Russel filed a complaint at Ramganj police station accusing Nurul Amin of the incident. Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Anwar Hossain said legal action will be taken against Nurul Amin according to the allegations.
