The murder case transferred to DB 10 BUET students remanded in Abrar killing case

A court yesterday placed 10 expelled leaders and activists of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on a five-day remand each in a case filed over the killing Buet student Abrar Fahad, reports the daily star.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yesir Ahsan Chowdhury granted the remand yesterday afternoon when DB inspector Wahiduzzaman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for each.
They were identified as Mehedi Hasan Rasel of civil engineering batch-13, general secretary of Buet BCL, Muhtasim Fuad of civil engineering batch-14 vice-president, Mehedi Hasan Robein of chemical engineering batch-15, the organising secretary, Anik Sarker of mechanical engineering batch-15, the secretary of information and research affairs, Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna of mechanical engineering batch-15, the publication affairs secretary, Ifti Mosharraf Shakal of biomedical engineering batch-16, the deputy social welfare secretary, Meftahul Islam Zion of naval architecture and marine engineering batch-15, the sports secretary, Muzahidur Rahman Muzahid of civil engineering batch-17, Muntasir Alam Jemi of chemical engineering batch-18 and Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir of mechanical engineering batch-17.
The case, filed over killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad with Chawkbazar Police Station, was transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) of Police yesterday, reports the daily sun.
Confirming the news, Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner of DB, said that now DB would investigate the murder incident.
Mahbub Alam also said that the 10 arrestees admitted to their involvement in the murder of Abrar Fahad.
Abrar, a second-year student of Buet, died after he was brutally beaten allegedly by some Chhatra League leaders at a university dormitory sometime between 7:00pm Sunday and 2:30am Monday.
Later on Monday, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19, including the arrestees, with the Chawkbazar Police Station.
Police arrested the 10 members of Buet unit BCL yesterday.
Buet student Abrar Fahad was buried at his village at Raidanga village in Kumarkhali upazila in Kushtia yesterday morning, reports the daily star.
Hundreds of people attended the third namaz-e-janaza of Abrar held at the village. Rezaul Karim, vice-principal of Afsar Uddin Madrasa, administered the janaza.
Later, Abrar was buried at his family graveyard around 10:00am.
After the burial, local people staged protests with different placards demanding exemplary punishment of the killers of Abrar.
Earlier, a heart-rending scene was created when an ambulance carrying Abrar’s body reached Kushtia town around 5:00am. Relatives, neighbours broke down in tears seeing the body of the young boy.
Hundreds of people attended the second namaz-e-janaza of Abrar held in Kushtia town at around 6:00am.
