Amid the ongoing talks with the franchisees to begin the next round of the 4th season, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan made the announcement that the upcoming season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) which is to be organized by the BCB will be called the ‘Bangabandhu BPL’. As such, in the seventh edition of the T20 tournament there will be no franchisee. The start of the tournament is scheduled at Dec 6, reports Bdnews24.
The BCB had been unable to keep up with several demands put forth by the franchisees contract, and their contract with the BCB had expired. However the BCB president has stated, “But the main reason is to honour Bangabandhu.”
Adding, “The biggest reason behind this is, you know, next year is the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu. We want to dedicate this season’s BPL to Bangabandhu. ”
