The report of the Investigation Committee formed by the Election Commission on the fire at the Capital’s Agargaon Election Commission Building will be submitted today. The head of the Investigation Committee & EC’s Additional Secretary, Md. Mokhlesur Rahman said, ‘We visited the place of the occurrence. We will submit the report on Thursday after investigating everything’, reports our local correspondent.
The findings of the investigation will also be informed at that time. Earlier, last Thursday (8thSeptember), a fire broke out in the basement of the EC building at night. Later that night, 12 units of the Fire Service were able to bring the fire under control at around 12.25 pm. Regarding this matter, EC’s National Identification Registration Branch’s Director Brigadier General Saidul Islam stated, ‘Damages caused due to this accident are not as severe as was anticipated’. According to him, damages have been caused to EVM’s Control Unit. Some damages have occurred to monitors but that is not because of fire. The damages to monitors occurred because of water. Two Investigation Committees have been formed to determine the causes of this incident. EC’s Investigation Committee has been told to report back within three working days. On the other-hand, the three member committee set up by the Fire Service has been told to report back within 2 weeks.
