Teesta crosses danger mark, thousands of families marooned

Water in Teesta River flew above 2 centimeters of the danger level yesterday, reports The Daily Sun.
At 6am, the river’s water flow was recorded at 52.62cm in Dalia Point of Teesta River Barrage in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari.
As many as 10,000 families are castes away as low-lying and char lands of Teesta and Dharla rivers have been flooded by last few days’ downpour and onrush of water from upstream.
Daily life of the residents of low-lying lands in Lalmonirhat sadar, Aditmari and Kaliganj upazilas has come into a crippling state.
Roads, market places and educational institutes got inundated in many parts.
Rush of water are posing threat to several embankments of Teesta banks in Hatibandha upazila.
Teesta Barrage Dalia part executive engineer Rabiul Islam said that all of the water gates have been unlocked to control the water rush.
