Deputy commissioners are all in all in field administration. THere are a total of 64 deputy commissioners in 64 districts.
Currently, nine districts have female DCs. They are Kamrun Nahar of Sirajganj, Anjuman Ara of Narail, Syeda Farhana Kawnaine of Narsingdi, Saila Farzana of Munsiganj, Umme Salma Tanzia of Faridpur, Sabina Yasmin of Panchagar, Nazia Shirin of Nilphamari, Sultana Parvin of Kurigram and Anar Koli Mahbub of Sherpur.
Narail DC Anjuman Ara told jagonews24.com that they were working as an official, not as a man or woman.
“We have never faced any such situation while working in the field level. I do not see any hurdle. I work even upto 12 at night. The society helps us and we feel comfortable. The society has changed a lot,” said the DC.
Kurigram DC Sultana Parvin said, “Women are more sincere than their male counterparts in work. People will support if you work well. I have never faced any obstruction to my work. I have always seen helpful attitude from people.”
DCs represent central government at district level. The DCs are tasked with supervising general administrative work, maintaining law and order as district magistrate and land management as collector.
A deputy secretary is appointed as a DC after okayed by fit list and superior selection board.
