The International Cricket Council (ICC) has condemned the terror attack at two different mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand yesterday.
Players from the Bangladesh cricket team who went to Masjid Al Noor mosque in Hagley were fortunate enough to have escaped from the horrific incident, reportedly by a fraction of minutes.
“Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this horrendous incident in Christchurch. Both teams, staff and match officials are safe and the ICC fully supports the decision to cancel the Test match,” said ICC Chief Executive David Richardson in a media statement following the incident.
Following the attack New Zealand called off the third and final Test against Bangladesh.
The five-day match was scheduled to start at Hagley Oval from Saturday.
Following the attack, the BCB took initiative to get the team back home immediately.
It is understood that the Bangladesh team members are likely to reach Dhaka in batches due to logistical challenges and the first group is likely to arrive today.
