More pressure needed to repatriate Rohingyas
Rights activist Khushi Kabir speaks to DOT :
It’s a global demand on Myanmar to take responsibility of the repatriation, rehabilitation and resettlement of the Rohingya refugees.
The international organizations should exert more pressure on Myanmar for the return of the Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh and other neighboring countries.
Myanmar should understand that it is not her weakness to repatriate the refugees languishing in several camps. Instead the country should demonstrate that humanity prevails upon the de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Khushi Kabir supports the United Nations call for opening the international borders along Bangladesh-Myanmar to enable Rohingyas, who are still subjected to oppression and torture by Myanmar security forces.
It was lauded that Bangladesh allowed thousands of fleeing Rohingyas to shelter them in Bangladesh. Also large numbers of Buddhist and Hindu Myanmar nationals have taken refuge here.
United National Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and Bangladesh authorities are doing their best to provide humanitarian assistance to the refugees.
Despite Bangladesh being a poor country and have its own development priorities, each time we gave them our land, we shared our food and opened up for the international community, she remarked.
