Model activist embraces her Lymphedema

Carmen Rene, model who embracing her curves and having Lymphedama isn’t going to stop her. Now she’s using her voice to fight for people just like her. She said that , When i started dating or being around guys a lot of men were not open to me being different. They would look at me funny or ask my friend, like, you know, “what’s wrong with her legs?” Around 10 million Americans suffer from lymphedema-most of them women.
She is more than happy to be their voice. Every day, get front of your mirror, butt naked and proclaim that “i am masterpiece.”
She also said , “i am pretty, life is short, so you better eat the cake too.”Lymphedema is abnormal swelling in the arms, legs, or other body parts caused by a damaged lymphatic system.
Rene was diagnosed at 3 years old. At age 25, she began to question society’s role in her self-esteem. That was the “aha” moment because the answer is she hate her body because some ridiculous beauty standard is telling her to. She wants to have her cake and eat it too and be curve and be healthy and be fat and be happy. All of these things are very possible. Rene founded the Instagram page “Eat The Cake Too”. She added that “It’s just a very free and open place for me to post and embrace my body, all of my body. There’s a lot of lingerie and implied nudity because I think it’s important that big people are normalized, not just in clothes, but outside of cloths too. I want show people –women especially you can feel sexy, you can feel love, and you can embrace. We live in a society that loves to tell us what we can’t have and what we can’t do, especially when it comes to our own self-image. I’m on a mission to change this and prove that being different does not make us any less beautiful. Being different does not define us. I am not my legs, my lymphedema, my insecurities, or the insecurities of others.
