Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research And Development (BIMRAD) organized a seminar titled, ‘Maritime Good Governance towards Sustainable Development’ on Monday at the Radisson Blu at the capital. Chief guests of the seminar were Prime Minister’s Security Advisor Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Tarique Ahmed Siddique as well as the organization’s main sponsor Navy chief Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed. Maritime experts from India, United States, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh gave presentations during the day-long event. Topics on maritime resource exploration, accumulation and their proper use, prevention of marine pollution, conservation of marine life and introducing laws to establish good maritime governance were discussed. Experts emphasized the importance of sustainable use of maritime resources on financial and diplomatic development.
With 71% of the planet’s surface being saltwater, it has become the center of civilization, trade, commerce and leisure. This ecosystem contributes to the planet’s climate control and the world’s oxygen, food, water, raw materials resources and even our entertainment services.
