Road communications between Dhaka and Rajshahi remained suspended yesterday morning as transport workers called strike in Natore. Akram Hossein, president of Transport Workers’ Union of Natore said Natore Transport Workers’ Union is observing the strike protesting a longstanding dispute with the bus owners of Rajshahi and Natore, reports The Daily Star.
The protesting workers took positions at various points of the Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway in Natore and barred any buses from entering the area from both sides.
Akram Hossein alleged that bus owners and workers in Rajshahi have recently beaten up and forced a transport worker of Natore named Rubel to get off from a Dhaka-bound bus.
“Our repetitive complains to the authorities also did not bring any results”, Akram alleged.
The joint secretary of Rajshahi Bus Owner’s Association, however, denied knowledge of any recent clash between transport workers and owners of Rajshahi and Natore.
