11th National election on December 23
Humayun Kabir of DOT : The 11th parliamentary election of Bangladesh will be held on December 23.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda made the announcement while addressing the nation yesterday evening, reports The Daily Star.
The announcement of 11th general polls schedule came amid strong opposition from Jatiya Oikyafront, comprising the BNP and several other parties.
The CEC said the aspirants will have to submit their nomination papers by November 19.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on November 22, he said adding that the last date for withdrawing candidature is November 29.
Earlier in the day, the Election Commission held a meeting to finalise their last-minute preparations ahead of the announcement of the election schedule.
After the meeting, CEC Nurul Huda recorded his speech, which was aired at 7:00pm yesterday, said EC sources.
The speech was broadcast on the state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar as well as on other private television channels and radio stations.
