Number of films frustrates stars
The number of Dhallywood films has been gradually decreasing over the years. As a result, a number of big names have not been getting films regularly, including the likes of Arifin Shuvo, Bidya Sinha Mim, Mahiya Mahi, Bappi Chowdhury, Saimon Sadik, Porimoni and Nusrat Faria, reports Prothom Alo.
Industry insiders say no film star barring Shakib Khan now gets projects on a regular basis. They are working on films that they had signed for a year or two ago but they have not signed for many films of late.
The stars themselves have agreed to it. Saimon Sadik signed for ‘matal’ almost two years back and the shooting of the film ended around two months ago. He signed for ‘Anondo Ashru’ last year while recently he has also signed for a new film that’s title is yet to be finalised.
Sadik said, “Not many films are being made nowadays.
The producers are not interested it seems. How shall we get films if there are not new projects?”
Around this time last year, Bappi Chowdhury signed for ‘Shashurbari Jindabad 2’. “We do not have unity among us. Internal conflict is the reason for this state of the industry,” he observed.
After making her debut two years back, Nusrat Faria had been working for the silver screen continuously. But things have not been the same recently, with the actress only signing for ‘Shahehshah’ two months ago.
“We are going forward in every sector barring the cinema. As a result, we see fewer production houses and fewer films. And the artistes do not get much work,” she said.
The shooting of ‘Bahaduri’ started in July last year. Porimoni is still shooting for the movie, but she did not sign for a new one afterwards.
“It is the failure of the industry, we actors are not to blame,” said the Dhallywood heroine.
Eight months after ‘Sultan’, Bidya Sinha Mim has signed for ‘Sapludu’ and its shooting will start on 23 October. She lamented, “Only Jazz Multimedia is now making films regularly. But they only work with their chosen actors.”
