Today it is plastered all over the news that 26 year old Mac Miller has died due to a suspected drug overdose.
Of course it is terrible when any human being dies and it is a loss.
Yet, some words in my head and heart are unable to stay inside.
OK… so it is traumatic when a celebrity dies, because they had millions of dollars which they spent on their drug addiction which inevitably led to their overdose and sudden death.
But let’s look at some REAL STATISTICS OF REAL PEOPLE, WHO ARE DIEING FOR REAL REASONS? OF COURSE AN OVERDOSE IS A REAL REASON, AND I AM NOT DOUBTING ADDICTION IS AN ILLNESS… BUT IF NEWS CHANNELS FOCUSED ON DEATHS OF CIVILANS EVERYDAY (AS THEY ARE WITH THE DEATHS OF CELEBRITIES) there would be no room or space for any other news.
Deaths in Syria (approx. figures) = 400,000 dead
Deaths in Burma (approx. figures) = 9000 dead
Deaths from shootings in U.S. each year (approx. figures) = 11,000 dead
Deaths in Japan Earthquake: 35 dead
I am not disrespecting Mac Miller or his family. I am sorry for their loss, I really am. I am more frustrated at the news channels who will spend days reeling on the drug-induced/self-inflicted death of a celebrity, when they could easily put more effort and financial help into preventing the deaths of humanity as a whole.
Sorry if I offended anybody with this post.
