M Humayun Kabir: The Supreme Court yesterday kept pending till August 13 a petition filed against a High Court order that directed the authorities to send detained photographer Shahidul Alam to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for his treatment.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order, reports The Daily Star.
Shahidul was picked up by plainclothes men on Sunday night and was placed on a seven-day remand by a Dhaka court the next day.
Shahidul’s wife Rahnuma Ahmed filed a writ petition with the High Court to send her husband to hospital for treatment.
The High Court on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to send Shahidul to BSMMU for his treatment and medical tests.
As per the court order, Shahidul Alam was taken to BSMMU Wednesday but he was taken back to DB office after doctors said they found no health issues requiring his hospitalisation.
On Wednesday, the government also filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court order.
BSMMU authorities yesterday submitted the medical report through the attorney general’s office.
