India Times: Going by the UN definition of ‘refugees’, Bangladeshi Muslims in India are “illegal immigrants” and no country would like to shelter them, said Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy. In an interaction with ET, Roy added that the opposition parties were carrying out a “nefarious campaign” to malign the process of NRC. He was also critical of Bihari Urdu-speaking Muslims, saying they were “Pakistani collaborators” and became “persona non grata” in Bangladesh after the liberation war and settled in Kolkata. On BJP’s demand to start an NRC-like process in Bengal, Roy refused to comment. “I cannot make political comments from the position of a governor.” “I can say that a large number of infiltrators entered Bengal. They were Bihari Muslims who became persona non grata in Bangladesh after liberation. They were hounded out of Bangladesh.
