Journalist Niyamat Hossain dies aged 77
Sayeed Muhammad: Veteran journalist, columnist and rhymester Niyamat Hossain has passed away owing to old-age complications. He was 77.
The senior journalist, who was also an author and translator, breathed his last at his Paltan residence yesterday afternoon, reports UNB. Born on January 15, 1941 in 24 Pargana of India’s West Bengal, Niyamat started his professional life with American firm Franklin Book Programs. Afterwards, he began to work as the editor and translator under the information department at the Soviet embassy in Dhaka, from 1964 to 1991. Three years later, he joined Daily Janakantha as a sub-editor.
In addition, his history of journalist includes working in various national dailies. He was well-accepted for his satirical write-ups. He penned five books for adolescents.
He was laid to rest at the Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard after the Maghrib prayers.
He left behind a host of fans, friends and well-wishers to mourn his death.
