No more than 5hrs driving on highways, PM orders

Abrar Hussain: In a bid to prevent road accidents in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday directed the concerned authorities new  directives, including a restriction on drivers plying their vehicles on the highways to five hours at a stretch, reports The Daily Star. The PM gave the order as soon as the news spread of the death of five people in a road accident in Tangail yesterday – the latest among a series of recent road accidents that has claimed many lives. Hasina also gave further orders, which include: Keeping an alternative driver in long distance vehicles, installing facilities on highways for drivers to take rest, sterner action against those violating traffic rules, installing zebra crossings on crowded roads and installing seatbelts on long distance vehicles.
