UN Under-Secretary-General for peacekeeping operations in town
Sabah Mannan: UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix arrived in Dhaka yesterday on a three-day visit.
Till July 3, he will visit Nepal, India and Pakistan. During this trip, Lacroix will meet with senior officials from all four countries, including government, military and police officials. Before concluding his trip to the region with a visit to Islamabad, Lacroix will travel to New Delhi.
Troops and police from these four countries combined approximately make up one-third of around 91,000 uniformed personnel across 14 UN peacekeeping operations. Lacroix’s visit was aimed to thank the four countries for their service and sacrifice in the name of peace and to update on ongoing reforms in the UN peace and security reform area especially the UN Secretary-General’s Action for Peacekeeping (A4P) initiative to make peacekeeping more steady, secured and tough.
