Home minister warns of tougher law for illegal drugs

Sofian Khan: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday warned of the new drafted law will ensure capital punishment to masterminds, godfather and patrons of illegal drug trading.
In a bid to take tougher actions against patrons and godfathers of illegal drugs and drug syndicate, the government has drafted Narcotics Control Act 2018 keeping the provision of death penalty against them, Kamal said.
The countrywide ongoing anti-narcotics drive was able to arrest 35,112 accused drug traders from January to March in 2018 in connection with 27, 340 cases.
On stopping yaba smuggling from Myanmar, the minister said Bangladesh and Myanmar so far held three bilateral meetings on preventing yaba smuggling.
