Ashiq Rahman: Education sector should be given the highest priority in the upcoming budget, said former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique. Education is the backbone of a nation. Our only key to reach the desired peak is to build an educated nation, Dr. Arefin told an interview.
Our country has the potential to go a long way only if we can achieve quality education. This is why this sector should be encouraged and given the maximum support which the current government has already been doing. Yet, in my consideration, much can be done in this sector.
The academic said he has always been demanding that budget in the education sector be increased. This apart, highest allocation should be given with the maximum priority to the sector. Because all the ministries are directly linked to education and the country’s overall development banks on this sector. If the education sector is not given the highest priority in terms of budget, we will gradually lag behind in education.
This is the 21st century, with the whole world moving forward. We will lag behind if we fail to secure quality education, added Dr. Arefin.
I do not see an alternative to increase the budget allocation for education sector to increase education quality and facilities. I hope the next budget will be adopted with the highest priority of the education sector.
