Israeli military drops warning leaflets into Gaza as border protests build
Afrida Ahmed:The Israeli military warned Palestinians by dropping pamphlets and firing tear gas into Gaza on Monday, to stay away from the border with Israel as protesters assembled for the demonstration, reports Reuters.On Monday, protesters were expected to increase rapidly since it would be the 70th anniversary of the foundation of Israel and the day the U.S. Embassy would be officially opened. According to Palestinian doctors and witnesses, Israeli military fired gunshots In Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip and one protester was injured in the leg.Israel blamed the militant Islamist group, Hamas, that they used the protests to hide their attacks against the Gaza-Israel border fence and Israeli soldiers on the other side. However, Hamas denied the accusation.Palestinian health officials informed that the Israeli soldiers have killed 45 Palestinians since the protests began on March 30. This increase in deaths resulted in international criticism.Israeli military said its soldiers were defending the border and firing according to the rules of the attack. Witnessed informed that the Israeli aircraft dropped flammable material on Monday and the soldiers fired tear gas at people inside the camps.Israel’s education minister, Naftali Bennett told Israel Radio that Israel would consider the Gaza fence as an “Iron Wall” and anybody who came near it as a “terrorist”.
