Abrar Hussain: National Committee to Protect Oil Gas Mineral Resources Power and Ports will stage protests across the country today, expressing their disapproval against the government’s decision to hike gas prices as well as the alleged corruption in the country’s energy sector. National Committee’s Member Secretary Prof Amu Mohammad had announced the program on Saturday at a press conference at Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad auditorium in the capital, reports UNB.
The National Committee also placed a four-point demand at the press conference which include: withdrawal of power and energy related immunity law, stopping import of LNG and instead taking measures for oil-gas exploration by state-owned companies, removing all anti-environment industrial units including Rampal Power plant from the Sundarbans area, and cancellation of setting up high-cost power plants.Anu Mohammad revealed that the National Committee will also gradually intensify their movement in the coming days to compel the government to accept their demands, alleging that wrong policies have been taken in power and energy sector in order to benefit foreign vested groups.
