Sejuti Mourin: Bus transport workers and owners have called a dawn-to-dusk strike on the Dhaka-Chattogram route today to push forward their demand in ending the severe traffic congestion on the highway. The Bus Owners Association and the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Union jointly called the strike yesterday to demand a resolution to the heavy congestion at Feni and Daudkandi that has been the cause of heavy suffering of travelers, Inter-District Bus Owners Association General Secretary Kafil Uddin told bdnews24.The cause for the unusual traffic has been due to the ongoing construction work on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway rail overpass at Feni’s Mohipal. For the last few days, the congestion expanded from Mohipal to Cumilla and Chattogram. The usual 5-6 hour trip on the Dhaka-Chattogram route is now taking anywhere from 15 to 17 hours. In the face of such heavy congestion many people have cancelled their trips and turned back.
