Bangabandhu-1 launch the beginning of a glorious chapter, says President Hamid
Sayeed Muhammad: Congratulating Bangladesh on the launch of its first satellite, Bangabandhu – 1, President Md Abdul Hamid has congratulated termed it the beginning of a glorious new chapter in the nation’s history.“It is a day of great joy and pride for our country. Bangladesh is now a member of the satellite club. Through this launch Bangladesh has opened a glorious new chapter in its history.”The satellite was launched from a pad in Florida on yesterday morning as SpaceX Falcon-9 Block-5 rockets fired at 2:14am Bangladesh time yesterday, reports bdnews24.com, adding, control was transferred to the designated Bangabandhu I satellite geostation half an hour later.
Hamid watched the launch live on television from his official residence, Bangabhaban, the president’s Press Secretary Md Zainul Abedin confirmed.
The president paid his tributes to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, thanking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“The current government is working tirelessly to achieve the 21st century goal of a Digital Bangladesh,” President Hamid said. “It is essential for us to set up satellite service conjunction with the submarine cable to ensure easy access to internet service. The satellite plays an indispensable role in realising our Digital Bangladesh.”
“I believe that Bangabandhu – 1’s launch will bring revolutionary change to our broadcasting and telecommunications sector, allow it to become self-sufficient and free of dependency on others.” Moreover, he also thanked the Post and Telecommunications Division, the BTRC, the satellite project, the officials and employees of Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited and all those involved in the entire project.
