Dr. M Shamsher Ali, Physicist: The ‘Bangabandhu-1’ satellite is the dawn of Bangladesh’s space journey. This is an amazing achievement for us. It would have been better if the launch took place on our own soil. It would have been a great delight. We were not able to do it this time but hopefully in the future we will be able to launch a satellite from our own country. This satellite can be useful in many ways. Broadcasting telecommunications and internet services in remote areas, those who use V-SAT systems to transfer information, broadcasting Bangladeshi television channels as well as DTH Services. In other words, improving the quality of current cable television signal. The technology has its pros and cons as well. However, how we take advantages of those depends on its proper use. So instead of its misuse, if we are able to properly use its technology then Bangladesh’s first ever satellite can earn great success. Although it will depend on its application. It can also be used for combating foreign espionage, but how effective will it be or how it will be deployed depends on our planning and proper use. In the future we will definitely launch more satellites. However, it would be fantastic if we can do it from here.
