56.9pc women not in education, employment, training: CPD

Tahmeed Taha: Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a civil society think-tank, yesterday said at a program in Dhaka that 56.9 percent of the women population of the country with working age is not present in education, employment and training (NEET). This was revealed by CPD during a dialogue on ‘Promoting Female in Bangladesh for Realizing Demographic Dividends’ at a city hotel, reports UNB. A Distinguished Fellow of CPD Mustafizur Rahman referring to the facts of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) said 56.9pc women of the age between 15 to more than 65, belong to the NEET category. He said this while presenting the keynote paper on ‘Realizing the Demographic Dividend in Bangladesh Promoting Female Labor Force Participation’. He said, “It’s a matter of concern but also an opportunity if Bangladesh can utilize the potentiality.” The contribution of women to the GDP of the country is 20pc as 77 to 87pc of their labor participation in economy and GDP remains unaccounted, according to the CPD findings. On the occasion, Senior Secretary of General Economics division of Bangladesh Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam was present as the chief guest, while Dr Barkat-e-Khuda, Dr Muzaffar Ahmed, Chair of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM), Mikael Hemniti Winther, Denmark’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Kabir Uddin Ahmed, Director of Industry and Labour wing in BBS, Dr Minhaz Mahmud, senior Research of BIDS, also spoke.
