After batting debacle, Tigers answer strongly with ball

Sayeed Muhammad

After a devastating show with the bat, Tigers fought back in the thirds session of Day-2 in the second and last Test against Sri Lanka at Dhaka. The visitors managed to score 200 runs losing 8 wickets, posting a 312-run lead on a wicket at Shere Bangla National Stadium, of Mirpur, looks to be highly in favour of bowlers. Mustafizur Rahman injected some excitement to the day’s play as his fiery spell paid dividends late in the third session when he removed Dilruwan Perea and Akila Dananjaya in back-to-back deliveries to get within striking distance of a hattrick. Earlier, Mehedi Hasan struck right after tea session to remove Dimuth Karunaratne, out trying to drive through the onside as Imrul Kayes to a good diving catch. Roshen Silva left the field on an unbeaten 58, while Lakmal was on 7 not out. In the morning, the home side crumbled as they lost their last five wickets for merely runs, putting up 110 runs on the board. Three of the Bangladeshi batsmen managed to open their account, with three others returned to the pavillion on 1 only.
