Justice Mahmud Hossain new Chief Justice
The President Abdul Hamid appointed a senior justice of the Supreme Court Appellate Division, Syed Mahmud Hossain, the new Chief Justice (CJ) of Bangladesh. The new CJ is about to read the oath today evening (February 3). The new CJ appointment was disclosed by Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday at a program but, he did not mention any name. Relevant files were sent to the Bangabhaban from the law ministry yesterday morning, a Law Ministry official said seeking anonymity.
The CJ post became vacant following Surendra Kumar Sinha’s resignation on November 10 2017, after taking month long leave on health ground in October.Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the senior most judge of the appellate division has been performing as Acting CJ since then.
