Two Americans, who grew up as best friends, recently learnt that they are actually biological brothers and revealed the surprise to family and friends over the Christmas holidays. Is has been 60 years now, since Alan Robinson and Walter Macfarlane had befriended one another, reports Associated Press. Born in Hawaii, the island state in the US, 15 months apart, they met in their sixth grade and played football together at a Honolulu school.Macfarlane never knew his father, while Robinson was adopted. But, they duo, separately, kept looking for the answers about their ancestry.Macfarlane turned to family history and DNA-matching websites after unsuccessful searches on the Internet and social media, reported Honolulu news station KHON-TV.“Hence, then we started digging into all the matches he started getting,” his daughter, Cindy Macfarlane-Flores, said.A top match — someone with identical X chromosomes — had the username Robi737. Robinson’s nickname was Robi and he flew 737s for Aloha Airlines, she added. It appears that Robinson used the same website to find answers about his family. They later learnt they had been given birth by the same mother.“It (the revelation of the matter) was a shock,” Macfarlane said. They finally disclosed the relationship to their friends and family members during a party on Saturday night.“It was an overwhelming experience, it is still overwhelming,” Robinson said. “I do not know how long it is going to take for me to get over this feeling.”The two have plans to travel and enjoy retirement together.“This is the best Christmas gift I could ever imagine,” Robinson said.
