China building network of refugee camps along border with North Korea


China is in the process of building network of refugee camps over the 880-mile (1,416km) border that lies with North Korea. It is preparing for an upcoming exodus that can result from Kim Jong-un’s regime. The Financial Times were the first one to reveal the news about the building of the camps. The document ‘China Mobile’ stated that there will be a minimum five refugee camps at the Jilin province. The facilities whose named were mentioned are: Changbai riverside, Changbai Shibalidaogou and Changbai Jiguanlizi. Also as found in the news by New York Times, there were planning for construction in the cities of Tumen and Hunchun.
Lu Kang, spokesperson of the China’s foreign ministry informed the reporters that he did not see any plans about the constructions of camps but he did not deny whether they were being built or not. In the document, a phone number of an employee of China Mobile was found but the calls were all unanswered. Cheng Xiaohe, specialist from North Korea mentioned that it would be unwise if China took such decisions as it would have an effect on the neighboring country.
