Vaccine may worsen effects of deadly disease

Tanzim Taqrim

Around 730,000 children have been injected with a vaccine that could worsen the deadly disease it’s supposed to prevent. New data has caused serious concern about a dengue vaccine in the Philippines.Filipino NGO, Volunteers against Crime and Corruption says that it received information that three children have died since being injected with it. Manufacturer and top drug firm, Sanofi, says no deaths have been recorded in relation to its vaccine. Nevertheless, it admits the vaccine could put those who have not already had Dengue at risk of more serious symptoms. Global Medical Head of Sanofi Pasteur,Dr Ng Su Peing said, ” If anyone is known who has no previous infection, we would not recommend vaccination.”
Across Asia and Latin America, Dengue fever is a leading cause of illness and death among children. But they may not be the only victims. In a climate of disbelief and concern, this failure may risk vaccination efforts throughout the world.
