Trump to call Jerusalem Israel’s capital, move embassy

Afrida Ahmed

Accor-ding to senior White House officials, US President Donald Trump will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on Wedndesday and talk about his plan to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the city. The officials said in a briefing that Trump’s expected announcement is “recognition of a reality”. Donald Trump will order the state department to begin the process of building a new US embassy in Jerusalem but White House officials informed that this process will take at least three years.Officials said that Trump will continue to sign the six-month waiver to keep the embassy in Tel Aviv until the relocation process is complete.
Trump’s declaration could damage American foreign policy goals and relationships. The move is likely to squander any remaining idea that the United States can be an honest broker in the stalled final status talks between Israel and the Palestinians.US President made a number of calls to King Salman of Saudi Arabia and other Arab leaders to talk about his intention and developments of the world.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Saudi King Salman told US President that the decision to move the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem before any peace settlement is reached will destroy peace and cause tension in the area.
