ACC resumes questioning of former BASIC Bank Chairman Abdul Hye Bachchu

Interrogation of former BASIC Bank Chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bacchu has faced the Anti-Corruption Commission’s interrogation over the swindling around Tk 2,200 crore loan fraud accusation. On Wednesday at 10am, the second day of Bacchu’s questioning began, informed Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, the ACC Deputy Director (Media). The investigation is being led by ACC Directors AKM Zayed Hossain Khan and Syed Iqbal. Bacchu left the ACC office after the interrogation session without pronouncing any words at 5.15pm. Pranab added that Bacchu had fallen sick for hypertension during the interrogation and was examined by doctors around 2:00pm. Bacchu, the accused claimed to the media that he believed himself innocent. On the 22nd October, ACC began to question people in connection with the loan fraud. Other directors of the Bank including Md Anwarul Islam, Quamrun Naher Ahmed, Anis Ahmad, Prof Kazi Akhtar Hossain, Fakhrul Islam, AKM Kamrul Islam, Jahangir Akhand Salim, Shakhawat Hossain,Shyam Sunder Sikder and AKM Rezaur Rahman have already been interrogated.
ACC although informed that they yet have not found any evidence of Bacchu’s involvement regarding the fraud. The finance ministry’s parliamentary standing committee was not happy with ACC’s findings. They launched a separate investigation into the matter.In 2016’s February, claimings were made by Finance Minister AMA Muhith of Bacchu’s involvement in frauds tied to loans, appointment and promotion. The Supreme Court’s Appellate Division expressed its anger as Bacchu and the suspected board of directors were not been named suspects by August.Abdul Hye Bacchu, the former chairman of Basic Bank was a Jatiya Party MP. He was appointed chairman of the bank in 2009 and renewed in 2012. In 2014, Bacchu resigned from the Bank regarding the emerging allegations.
