On Saturday, Pope Francis craved world leaders to turn back from the brink of possible human pulverization. He claims that some of them had an “irrational” attitude towards nuclear weapons. The Pontiff came with his comments while aboard the plane taking him back to Rome completing his trip to Myanmar and Bangladesh. The trip was lead by the crisis of Rohingya refugees which both countries are affected by.The Pope, aboard the plane was asked what had prompted him to consider to change the official Church position and specifically, his feelings about the war of words between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Francis answered “What has changed is the irrationality (of the attitude toward nuclear weapons). Today we are at the limit, It can be debated but it is my opinion, my conviction, that we have reached the limit of the (moral) licitness of having and using nuclear weapons. Why? Because today, with such a sophisticated nuclear arsenal, we risk the destruction of humanity or at least a great part of humanity.”The Pope also suggested the need of interference of a third country to try negotiate a deal between the U.S. and North Korea. It is crucial for both sides to cool down the oratory, and stop trading insults.
