Election to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) for its mayoral post will be held within a span of 90 days after the government announces it vacant. The post fell vacant with the death of Annisul Huq on Thursday. “The new mayor will elected within 90 days after a gazette announcing the post vacant is published by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives,” Helal Uddin Ahmed, acting secretary to Election Commission (EC), told the media yesterday. After that, the EC will start working on the next steps regarding the election, he added. The incumbent DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq, who was suffering from cerebral vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessel wall in the brain, died at a London hospital at the age of 65. He was elected mayor in the DNCC polls held on April 28, 2015.
