Another first for America
Abdul El- Sayed is running to be governor of Michigan. He’s the son of Egyptian immigrants and is an accomplished doctor. He’s only 32 years old and never considered running for office. The 2016 election helped change that while media has focused on El- Sayed’s faith; he wants his platform to be about more than that. He has been leading a progressive campaign. He has pledged to take no corporate PAC money and disapproves of big money influencing elections. El-Sayed also wants universal healthcare and supports marijuana legalization. He has been compared to President Obama and he is supportive of the contrast. Michigan is a swing state and went to Donald Trump in 2016. El- Sayed thinks he can connect with voters despite their political learnings. The election won’t happen until next year, but El-Sayed campaign has already raised more than $1 million. He also wants more people to get active in politics.
