Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the UNESCO recognition of the historic March 7 speech by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman came as an honor to the whole nation. She called upon the people to hold it in their determination and remain united firmly never to let down the dignity father of the nation has brought for the country through the struggle he did throughout most of his life.She in her speech thanked the organization for acknowledging the speech as as part of the world’s documentary heritage and those countries which supported this.Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina was addressing at the citizen rally yesterday afternoon, organized to celebrate the recognition at the historic Suhrawardy undyan where the historic speech was delivered in 1971 before hundreds of thousands freedom-seeking Bengali from Pakistani subordination. Calling it a decisive speech, when Bangabandhu made all the directions to the Bengali required to free the country through liberation war, she distinguished it to be of a rare spontaneous kind against all other greatest speeches which were mostly written. She said March 7 speech was such one that had had no written version or a note. She said Bangabandhu knew the Pakistanis would never hand over power to the Bengali. So, the country had to be freed through waging war. “He took part in the election for the people’s mandate. Knowing that the specters of Pakistan would not leave power, Father of the nation made all plans and directions clear regarding everything required for the liberation war including collection of arms, money in the speech, each of which Bengali implemented till the last drop of blood, freeing the country and him from Pakistan.”
