Record amount of rice was imported this year, shows the statistics report of Bangladesh Bank. Even, new amon rice is coming out to the markets. But, the market price has gone down by 4 taka only. Thick grains are still being sold at average of 53 taka & thin grains at 60 taka. On the other hand, the cost of the newly imported rice was only 33 taka per kg. More than 13.16 lacs metric tons of rice came through borders this year. Record breaking amount of LC accounts were opened. Which was more than 5 times than the last year. Totaling up to 25.59 metric tons of rice. One of the Rice Mill owner said, since most are still selling the old stocked rice, the price is decreasing at much slower rate than expected. Also, there is no demand from the mills.
