Action plan to halve accidents by 2020 approved

A national road safety action plan was approved yesterday with a goal to halve accidents by 2020. The plan was approved in the 25th meeting of the National Road Safety Council in a hotel in the capital, presided over by Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader. The minister’s senior information officer Md Abu Naser issued a press release in this regard. Among other members of the council, Shahjahan Khan MP, Minister of Shipping, Moshiur Rahman Ranga, State Minister of LGRD and Ekabbar Hossain, chairman of Parliamentary Sub-committee on Road Transport and Bridges, Md Nazrul Islam, secretary of the roads and highway department, Moshiar Rahman, chairman of BRTA, Ilias Kanchan, organizer of Nirapad Sadak Chai Andolan, Khondoker Enayetullah, general secretary of Bangladesh Sadak Paribahan Malik Samiti, Osman Ali, general secretary of Bangladesh Sadak Paribahan Shramik Federation, were also present at the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that a meeting headed by the secretary of Roads and Highway department is to be held in every two months to implement the plan. Also decisions to implement the excess load control regulations in order to check the overloading of the vehicles on the roads and highways and to limit the speed during the winter were also taken during the meeting.
