Can Rohingyas return home?

Noman Mosharef

Whether the displaced Rohingyas can ever return home is a burning question since the exodus began in 1978. It is not only them who want to go back to their own land, but also the international community is largely concerned about their repatriation. More than 600,000 Rohingyas have entered Bangladesh since a fresh crackdown of Myanmar Army on them began on August 25. Now the total number of Rohingyas taking shelter in Bangladesh reached nearly a million.
Bangladesh is trying to resolve the crisis through diplomatic ways, hence, seeking international supports in this regard. To put effective pressure on Myanmar to take back their citizens, Bangladesh needs support from India, China and Russia besides UN, EU, USA or UK. Bangladesh continues her diplomatic efforts to get the crisis resolved. Home minister recently visited Myanmar to talk on the issue.Earlier a representative of Myanmar government also came to Bangladesh. Every time Myanmar authorities showed positive gesture about the repatriation of Rohingyas, which gave Bangladesh some hope. However, Myanmar made no mentionable progress, much to the dismay of Bangladesh. For the worse, Myanmar recently blamed Bangladesh for delaying the process for aid money. Not only Bangladesh rubbished the outrageous claim, many sees that to be yet another trickery of Myanmar to stall the process of repatriation. Earlier too, whenever Myanmar talked about this issue, they suggested screening before repatriation, also which was suspected by many as merely an excuse meant to delay the process.
