Created a year or two ago, 500 national apps were developed with the aim to grab public attention but these apps went missing from the Google Play Store and were only available at the Ministry’s website. When questioned, the Ministry said that software company Ethics Advanced Technology Limited (EATL) was responsible for looking after the apps. On the contrary, EATL commented that they were only accountable for developing the apps. This lack of effective coordination had lead to a loss of 8 crore government money. In 2014, ICT  Division launched 500 mobile apps with the intention of not only helping to facilitate provision of government services but also taking the country further on its way to becoming digital. However, this goal failed. The ICTD website showed 504 apps out of which the same app was repeated a number of times and there was an addition of other irrelevant apps. EATL charged 4.5 crore taka for making the apps but spent only $25 in downloading all of them. After observing such illicit activities, Google removed all the apps from their Play Store.
