Dhaka Attack abuzzes Bangladeshis in Singapore

Redwan Ahmed from Singapore

Kashem Ahmed, a Bangladeshi expatriate, went to the Carnival Cinema in Shaw Tower at Beach Road, Singapore, Friday evening fancying to watch a Bollywood film. Arriving there, he came to see a poster of Dhaka Attack to be screened from the next day. Immediately he changed his mind. He bought three tickets for his friends and himself and went back home excitedly. A drizzle ahead of the next evening worried the distributors until people started pour in the theatre. The house was full. Many of the audience had their day off, while a good number came after attending half-day office. A Singapore based firm, Raduga production, brought this film to Singapore. They screened Bhayangkar Sundar before. Sumaya Shahrin, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Punggol, said: “I heard a lot about this film. I was very eager to watch this. Finally it came! I really want to watch more Bangladeshi films here.” Hossain Sentu, a 30-year old construction worker at Geylang, said “This was amazing. Today I had half-day work and I came here with my friends. A great way to ease your stress. And now we can brag with co-workers about our films in Singapore.” Excited to screen Dhaka Attack, Carnival manager Aji said “I am so overwhelmed with the crowd today. “If everything goes well, we’ll screen more Bangladeshi films. Raduga’s owner Amitabha Nag told Our Times, “A good quality film will always draw audience.” “Singapore is a promising market for Bangladeshi films,” he also said.
