“If everyone else demolishes (their houses), I will do too”, this is how most of the house owners are defending themselves. Countless buildings are being constructed in the Capital, without RAJUK supervision. Giving away almost everyone the opportunity to ignore all sorts of construction codes & laws. Most of the multistoried buildings at least have to leave off, 5 feet from front, 3 feet from back & 4 feet from the sides, from their land for construction. Also, 32% of the land should be left unused on average. Despite of all these well written rules, almost everyone is ignoring RAJUK codes & their defined blue-prints.Meantime, RAJUK Development Control Division Director Dr. Mosharaf Hossain claimed that, 50 police inspectors are appointed to visit construction sites. 10 under-construction structures per month each. They report any irregularity to the authorized officers & the officers conduct mobile court operation. RAJUK is responsible for banning any construction project if they fail to meet the Building Construction Law 2008. RAJUK published a list of 4,097 construction project. Out of them 60 buildings were announced ‘Risky’ for construction plan irregularity and were noticed to be evacuated. On the other hand, when such of an authorized officer (RAJUK Area 3) Mobarak Hossain was confronted by our reporters regarding illegally constructed buildings in Md.Pur. He replied that, he is an employee of the President & not obliged to the RAJUK Chairman. He already sent notice to the house-owners to demolish the illegal parts of their building. That is as far as he can do. He even challenged the reporter to write anything the reporter wanted, since the responsible RAJUK authorities had been already paid by these law breakers. That is why, the higher authorities aren’t taking action.
