Capital Dredging Project on 53 Inland Water Routes 3 Crores Cubic-Meter Sediment Cleared in 6 Years

Government is spending 1,800 crores taka to initiate dredging out 24 inner-country water transportation routes. Dredging work is ongoing with full manpower on 20 other routes, and 30% of the work has been done already. 4 of the routes are already dredged out. Rest to be done by 2019.
BIWTA Project Director Engr. Md. Rakbul Islam Talukdar announced that, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan will inauguration ceremony of initiating dredging project on the Daudkandi-Homna-Ramkrishnapur water route today.
He also added that, this procedure seems to be most promising to protect the river in the long run. 19 lacs cubic-meter sediment will be cleared out from the river beds of Gomti, Meghna & Titas, on this Comilla route. They will dug out 200 feet wide & 12 feet deep waterway. Also, beacon lights will be installed along the way. At total expense of 44.79 lac taka. Naval Forces will coordinating this project at the site.
