Power Development Board (PDB) proposes maximum of 14.5% Consumer Level electricity price increase at the 2nd day of public-hearing. The multiple price increase in a year, riled-up some heated debates by the politicians & general public. The public-hearing had been arranged for 2 consecutive days at TCB auditorium in Farmgate. BERC Chairman Monowar Islam conducted the hearing, with 4 commission members. Upon his proposal of 14.5% increase Monowar Islam defended that, the government is paying 3% loss per unit. Till now, total of 38-50 crores taka loss had been counted. Though, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) challenged PDB and agreed on 10.65% increase. That is 72 paisa more for per unit electricity. BERC argued that, some of the import expenses shown by PDB, had no validation.BERC have called each major electricity suppliers & distributors to discuss about their respective consumer-level price-increase in separate public-hearings. These will be conducted within next 7 days.
Among them, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board might face highest change in price, up to 10.75%. Then, Dhaka Power Distribution Company would face lowest increase, only by 6.24%. Estimated by PDB.
