Locks are hanging in front of both Escalator Foot Over Bridges near Banani Shoinik Club and Shahjalal International Airport. These had been out of use for months. Experts blame the lack of cooperation between the City Corporation & care-taker organizations.
Now, beggars- hawkers crowd the place in the morning and prostitutes turn up in the evening. Such condition also discouraging the pedestrians to use the bridges manually. Hence, they are just crossing the streets by jaywalking with risk. This has become a nuisance to the general public now. They believe, it was very unnecessary to break-down the regular foot-over bridges if they cannot keep the digital ones running. The traffic polices at duty also getting bothered by the random jaywalkers. But, they cannot stop them since there are no foot-over currently. Traffic Jam duration also increased at signals for this, claim traffic polices.
The escalator service provider company for the bridge at airport, Horizon Techno Limited gave 1 year free service till 17 August. They did their best, said their Assistant Manager Ahsan Habib. He also complained that, they did not set up the bridge at Banani. Still, they agreed to repair its ‘Handle Drive’ at the cost of 50 thousand taka, upon request from City Corporation. But over a year has passed, they still did not get paid.
