22 Thousand Living Inhumanely At Harizon Sweeper Colonies: Just To Ensure A Roof Over Their Families

A private development agency’s report showed that, currently 22 thousand Horizon sweeper families live in 13 colonies at inhumane condition, in Dhaka. In some cases, 10-12 people live in a single rooms. In out-of-order announced buildings. They have to sleep in turns of 4-5 hours. On average, per toilets used by 100 and per water source used by 84 people. Still, they are clinging onto the only little residence or home they have, so they don’t lose it.
Over the decades, many minor groups have lost their lands & homes due to the urbanization of Dhaka city. Though, PM has sated some rules in 2012, in the favor of Bede, Dolit & other under-progressed groups. Horizon sweepers still could not make their place for some basic citizen privileges, in the 15 years of law-management.
Though government initiated a project for 7 multi-storied buildings for them. 5 are still under-construction due to budget cut. General Director from Department of Social Services, Dr. Abu Hena ensures that, they are going to make a statistic reports ant take initiation for their betterment step by step.
