81% of the revenue from the gas price increase suppose add to the government’s treasury & aid the budget. But, it is halted again for the second time. This is going to be a big bump in implementing the budget, worries Finance Minister Abul Mal Muhit.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission increased the gas price by 22.07% in two steps. It was in effect from 23 February, for 8 sectors. But the court halted the 2nd-step increase in 1 March. Upon the request from the client sectors affected from this change. Finally, it became effective from 1 June. But they again banned the increase yesterday.
Though, experts & economist are suggesting that, this decision was unwise. They shouldn’t have increased the price in so little time and so much. Stove connections rose by 300 taka within few months. They advises government to adapt & take long-term policies.
Business-owners were also very upset since, captive generator in the spinning mill that run by the gas, were about to expensive to run. Since, the costing rose from 4.20 taka to 9 taka.
